Spring Break

So, I realize that Spring Break was just last month for most of us, but I am so far behind on my blog posts that I am just now getting around to posting pics from last year’s Spring Break trip!  Maybe I’ll have photos from this year’s trip ready for you all to see before Christmas.  🙂

We spent Spring Break at a beach house in Florida and my parents were able to fly down from CA to hang out with us.  The weather was all over the place.  We were there for a full week and half of the time was hot and sunny and the other half was cloudy and too cold for me to venture into the water.  My kids never think it’s too cold to go swimming though!

My boy is the king of the sand hill!

My kids had the best time with my parents.  I definitely think that it’s time to plan another beach vacation with the grandparents!

Time to build a sand castle.  Just look at their concentration.  🙂

This day, we decided to go in reverse and instead of building up the sand, we dug a trench and the kids pretended to be waiters.  It’s hard to tell from this angle, but the trench was deep enough that my son could just peek his eyes over the wall.

We rented a house right on the beach between Destin and Seaside, along Hwy 30-A.  It was so nice being able to walk right out and set up “camp” for the day.  Then we could easily head back inside for lunch and restroom breaks, which is HUGE when you’re vacationing with kiddos.  I would definitely go back to this location again!

Universal Studios Orlando

In keeping with my theme of blogging about super old vacations, today I’m sharing our trip to Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.  My husband had a conference in Orlando last February, so we decided to pull my oldest out of school for a couple of days and tag along with him and make some memories.

This was my son’s first time to a theme park and he absolutely loved it!  He was tall enough to ride a lot of the rides, although he did miss out on our favorites that were at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  I guess that means we’ll just have to go back again.  🙂

While my son, who was 3 at the time, loved meeting all of the characters, my daughter’s favorite part was the rides.  Especially those in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter because she loves all things HP!  Unfortunately I didn’t get a lot of pictures of this part of the park because we were too busy riding all of the rides.

Both kids enjoyed picking out their wizard wands from Olivander’s and walking around, casting spells.  Since our son wasn’t tall enough to ride some of the rides, my husband and I took turns taking our daughter on them.  Which means she got to ride everything twice!

Back Home to Alaska

I’m not sure how many of you already knew this, but my husband and I are both from Alaska.  We haven’t lived there since we were young adults, but we still consider it “home”.  Last summer (August 2015) we took a trip back up there and got to play tourist.  It’s fun to go back to a place that you once lived and experience it as a tourist.

We spent the first part of our trip in Talkeetna, which offers up some of the best views of Mount Denali.  Since our kids are growing up in the plains of Oklahoma, they thought that the mountains were pretty spectacular!

We were able to see some amazing wildlife while we were up there too!  There is an amazing wildlife sanctuary south of Anchorage that is home to several species.  Many are there because they were found injured.  We also visited the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage and the Alaska Sealife Center in Seward.

A family friend took us out on his river speedboat one day and the kids had a blast!  The view wasn’t too bad either.

On the day that we drove down to Seward to check out the Alaska Sealife Center, we decided to hike up to Exit Glacier.  It has melted back quite a bit, so the hiking part is a little longer.  But it was so cool being able to get that close to a glacier.  I definitely want to take a glacier cruise out of Seward during our next visit and see some bigger glaciers!

Here are a few snap shots that we took with our camera phones while on our trip to Colorado.  Thanks to my husband and daughter, I actually have a few pictures with myself in them!

Colorado Family Vacation Part 2 | Tulsa Oklahoma Photographer

Our first full day in Colorado was packed full of adventure.  Our first planned stop was Red Rocks park, but on our way there we saw a sign that said “Dinosaur Ridge”.  So of course, we made a little detour!  We opted not to pay for the shuttle bus tour around the entire park since we were already pressed for time.  Instead we just walked up the first part of the trail to check out the first set of dinosaur tracks.  I wasn’t able to get any really great pictures because a school bus filled with children stopped and unloaded just as we were getting there.  It was still neat to be able to see real dinosaur tracks!

Our next stop was Red Rocks park.  My husband and I had been there once before (long before we had children), but I was still in awe of the beauty there.  The kids climbed up and down the amphitheater and then we wandered around for a bit and I snapped a few photos.

From there, we drove to Estes Park, CO and then headed up into the Rocky Mountain National Forest.  We stopped and climbed some rocks to get to a small waterfall.  It was just what the kids needed after a long car ride.  I love these two photos that I captured of the kids.  They were so proud of themselves for making the hike!

On our drive back down the mountain, we saw a herd of Elk grazing along the roadside.  We parked along the side of the road and got out so that we could get a closer look.  They didn’t seem to mind us or all of the other people that had the same idea.

Stay tuned for at least one more Colorado post.  We squeezed in a lot of activities while we were there and I took a ton of photos!
